State of the Fandom
I thought that for this week’s State of the Fandom, I’d give a tutorial on navigating the Dungeon at MVF. Fanfiction is my passion- it has been ever since I discovered Harry Potter fanfic four years ago. I’m a prebeta at a Harry Potter site and between the three sites I’ve worked on (The Quidditch Pitch, Simply Twilight, and now My Vamp Fiction), I think I have a pretty good grasp of how to navigate eFiction. Our Music Page is Live!
I know we announced this on Twitter, but I thought it’s worth announcing here as well. One of the things we wanted to do at My Vamp Fiction was offer playlists for people to listen to. Right now, we have three listed and are planning more. Some of the lists are based on books we’ve read, the music that reminds us of those books. Some are inspirational music that our authors listen to while writing. Still others are just personal playlists, music that makes us happy.
Please go enjoy our playlists on our Music page.

Vampire Diaries Recap & Review
Did you miss The Vampire Diaries last night? Here is a recap and review from Zap2it.com:
On “Vampire Diaries,” we take a look back at Mystic Falls in 1864 and learn what (or who) may have propelled the town to hunt down its demons.
Reliving the Past: In 1864, Katherine is having the best of both worlds — seducing Damon while also bedding his younger sibling Stefan — and really, what more could a girl want? While with Damon, Katherine is called down to meet Pearl (guest star Kelly Hu), also a vampire, and it is then that Pearl brings her an elixir (aka vervain), proving that the townspeople know vampires are living among them. Pearl tells Katherine that they must leave, but Katherine rejects the idea.
Giuseppe, the Salvatore patriarch (guest star James Remar), tells his sons Damon and Stefan about the “demons” (aka vampires) living among them, but the brothers aren’t shocked. After all, they’re both in love with the same one. Giuseppe tells his sons that the town will fight back. Stefan wants to tell his father about Katherine’s true identity, but Damon adamantly assures him that their father will kill Katherine himself if word ever got out. Damon forces Stefan to promise him that he won’t say a word about Katherine, but Stefan commits the ultimate betrayal and goes to his father anyway.
Stefan worries that his father’s impending plan to kill all the vampires is too extreme, and doesn’t reveal the reason why he is so set on changing his father’s mind, but the older (and much wiser) Salvatore isn’t stupid. Giuseppe somehow injects vervain into Stefan’s blood, poisoning Katherine when she goes in to bite his neck during one of their nightly romps in the bedroom. Stefan pleads to his father to spare her, but Giuseppe says he knew something was up because he didn’t raise his boys “to be so weak.” Damon races in to see Katherine lying on the ground, barely breathing, and feels betrayed by his father but especially his brother Stefan.
When the townspeople throw Katherine lock her up, her friend Pearl tells her daughter Anna and Emily to stay hidden. Jonathan Gilbert, the Gilberts’ ancestor whose journal unlocked Mystic Falls’ history, sees Pearl and approaches her (with the compass that helps identify vampires in hand). It is then that he realizes that Pearl is one of them when the arrow stays pointed in her direction, and they capture her post-shot to the back.
Back to the Present: Everyone is after Jonathan Gilbert’s journal, since it reveals how the tomb underneath the church can be opened, or so everyone thinks. Once they read through it, it leads them to Damon and Stefan’s father’s grave. Stefan and Elena, hellbent on not letting Damon gain access to the spellbooks located in Giuseppe’s grave, retrieve the tattered book from his coffin. But of course, Damon arrives just in time (after he pays a visit to Anna’s hotel room and they almost become partners-in-crime).
It’s then that Damon has a case of deja vu; his brother betrays him in 1864 and Stefan (along with Elena’s help) does it again in present day. Ticked off, Damon threatens to turn Elena — and is very close to doing so — unless Stefan backs down and gives him the spellbooks that reveal how to open the tomb, but Damon backs off when Stefan lets him have it.
Unlikely Partners: History teacher Alaric Saltzman (guest star Matt Davis) and Stefan make an unofficial pact after Alaric tells him that he witnessed Damon killing his late wife. The only thing is, they never found her body. So now that Alaric knows who Stefan is, and vice versa, will Alaric keep his end of the deal by not telling Damon why he’s in town?
Bonnie’s Date with a Vampire: Bonnie goes on a date with Ben (guest star Sean Faris), who hasn’t been a vampire for very long and will do anything to appease Anna, at the Mystic Grill. Everything is going well until she goes in to kiss him and reacts to it in an unusual way, almost like she knows what his secret is. When she tries to escape from the Grill, Ben uses his superhuman speed and kidnaps her.
Spanning Centuries: There is more to Anna than previously thought. Through the 1864 flashbacks, we find out she was alive back then and that the Salvatores make the connection to who, or rather what, she is. At the very end of the episode, Anna kidnaps Elena from her bedroom after Stefan and Damon have their dramatic face-off at their father’s grave, complicating matters even more for everyone involved.
Kinky Threesomes: There’s Anna-Ben-Jeremy, Elena-Damon-Stefan, Katherine-Damon-Stefan and Anna-Ben-Bonnie. In many ways, Anna is like the present-day Katherine, getting the boys to do her dirty work for her. She is an interesting girl, and the more I find out about her, the more I’m curious about what her story is.

The Other Half of the Cow

The last column I wrote, I discussed Edward and the flaws he would have if he was real. He isn’t real, so all the perceived flaws aren’t either, but if he was a living, breathing man, then he’d be a royal pain in the ass. But in love, as in many things, there is never just one side to the story. Bella certainly had her share of foibles, but because Twilight was from her point of view, we saw hers a lot more clearly. Wicked Wednesday… on Thursday…

February Twicon Tuesday
Twicon 2010 is only a few months away, and as we get closer to the events, we all get more excited. But what about all of the stuff that goes on behind the scenes to make it the premiere Vamp Convention of 2010?
Events like this don’t plan themselves, and like so many events of this kind, it could not exist without volunteers. Twicon is lucky to have such people, and we had the opportunity to ask Shannon, the new Director of Volunteer Services some questions about volunteer program for this year’s convention: Read more

When real life and fan fiction collide
Today’s post by lexiecullen17 is about a very sensitive subject. I (Saluki) give her so much credit for writing the post, because I know there are many women who wouldn’t have the courage to share such a personal story with the world. However, I know that because of her courage, there are other women who are not going to feel so alone. I think I can speak for all of the girls at MVF when I say that you are an amazingly strong woman and we are proud to call you our friend.
Today’s entry deals with sensitive topics such as sex, sexual assualt, and the aftermath of rape. Please don’t read if you are sensitive to these topics. Read more
Slaughtering the Sacred Cow

I think I’m just going to keep on with the topic of Twilight. A few reasons for that. First, because it really does seem that it’s what people want to read about, but also because it’s just so easy to find things to discuss about it. Being the pop culture phenomenon of the day, it’s got so many possibilities for discussions.
But also, and I mean this with love, I am so, so tired of Twilight in some ways. It isn’t that I don’t love it. I do. Enough that I’ve read all the books eight times, and all those eight times in the first four months I owned the series. I really love Twilight, but there is so much more out there that no one seems to ever want to talk about and I’d just love to have an intelligent conversation about some other series. Read more
Wicked Wednesday…on Thursday
Before I go any further, I’m going to remind you this feature is NC-17. So make sure you’re 18 before reading.
Hello there, WW readers, it’s me again, SusanAshlea, the one who can’t write lemons.
But can I?
The last time I spoke with you, I discussed my frustrations over my inability to write the lemons. I relayed my frustrations over the words I can’t say and all that nonsense. Then the very next day, I decided, “I can do this,” and I set out to writing a Demetri outtake for my story, Finding Forever. Read more
Coming together…Giving Back

I haven’t been a part of many fandoms. Sure, I’ve followed certain actors and signed up on fan forums in the past, but until I discovered Twilight, I never considered myself part of a community. Many people that I run into scoff at my association with the Twilight fandom. They think it is a bunch of girls obsessed with Edward Cullen. Okay, sure, there is some of that in the fandom, and there is nothing wrong with that. However, this fandom is so much more. We are a community of readers, writers, friends, activists, and leaders. We are different ages, different races, and have diverse beliefs. But I have found that amongst all of the diversity, we share one common thread: the desire to give back.
Today, I want to highlight just a few examples of the extraordinary work Twifans have done in both organizing and contributing to various causes. Read more
WW postponement
Hey there kiddos, SusanAshlea here.
Today was my day to post Wicked Wednesday, and I didn’t realize it was actually Wednesday until about an hour ago. I walked around all day thinking it was Tuesday, checking the blog and wondering “who’s day is it to post?”
Yup, that’s me.
I have the entire article ready too. And it’s on the flash drive that I left in my desk at work. So, first thing tomorrow morning, I’ll be posting Wicked Wednesday! Sorry for the delay, bb’s, and my apologies to our feature author, Britpacksuccubus.
See you all tomorrow!
Stereotypes? Sexism? Really?

So here’s a new one. The Twilight Saga is full of stereotypes and sexism. Yeah, I guess it’s not really new, is it? Ever since I read the series in 2008, I’ve been reading discussions, debates, even arguments that the series perpetuates stereotypes – like a female doing all the cooking – and it is sexist. I kind of giggled at the time. It’s a teenage vampire love story, for gods’ sake. What are people who truly understand stereotyping and sexism doing reading a teenage vampire love story? Uh, wait a minute. I guess that included me. Read more
State of the Fandom
So, in light of recent events, I’m keeping this week’s ‘State of the Fandom’ a little bit on the fluffy side. I thought, ‘Hmm, what can I write about that will result in no one getting upset,” and came to the conclusion that it’s time to interview Edward. So, without further ado, the star of such epic fics as ‘The Dark Side of Twilight’, ‘The Summer of Twilight’, and many, many more to come, Edward Cullen!!! Read more

Why We Validate
Why we validate…
by SusanAshlea
I have always loved writing, but I have never considered myself a writer. Sure, I wrote short stories in high school, and I got a kick out of writing satirical essays, but that was ages ago. I graduated from high school in 1996 and I think the last short story I wrote was when I was a freshman or sophomore in college. So, I think the last time I picked up a pen, figuratively speaking, was roughly 12 years ago.
Fast forward 12 years later, and I would now consider myself a writer. However, that would never have happened if it hadn’t been for one thing: my first Twilighted rejection.
I got the writing bug after I discovered Twilight fan fiction in January of 2009, Read more
Gone Missing
I love a good story. I especially love a good and completed story so today I thought I would talk about the pain that sprouts from starting a fic that goes unfinished or gets pulled without warning.
Before I go any further I just want to make a couple of things plain. I understand that all of the fan fic authors out there have a real life to attend to and, of course, that should take precedence above all else. This is not some battle cry against authors that can’t or don’t finish their stories or take them down. This is more like therapy, at least for me.
