My name is…My name is…My name is SALUKI

I totally hate these introduction sessions. It makes me feel like I’m back at camp, doing some corny ‘get to know you, ‘exercise. However, since we want all of you to know us as more than just co-owners of the site; I am going to do my best not to bore you to death introducing myself.
Many of you already know me as my alter-ego Saluki (or Saluki168) from other sites such as Simply Twilight, Twilighted, Live Journal, Twitter, or Fan Fiction.net. In real life, people call me Heather. I know, boring right? So, for the basics. I’m 33, married, and have one dog and three cats. I recently found a job after being unemployed for almost three months, which is a huge relief. My hobbies include reading, writing, shopping, and genealogy. In the winter, I’ve been known to bust out some cross-stitching as well. My favorite beverage is gin and tonic and if you’re going to buy me a shot, make it Petron.
I am what most people would consider a newbie to the vampire genre. Besides reading Dracula and seeing a few vampire movies, I really didn’t realize how huge and varied the genre was. I figured it was bloodsuckers with fangs getting killed with stakes through the heart…thanks, but no thanks. Then, after much prodding from SusanAshlea, I read the Twilight series just a few months before the movie hit the big screen. I’ve since read other vampire/paranormal series and am completely hooked. I can’t seem to go to a bookstore without picking up a new series to read. But, the more vampire books I read, the more great book reviews I can write for the blog, so it’s a win – win for all of us.
Soon after I began reading the Twilight books, I was introduced to fan fiction. Once again, I knew it was out there, but initially thought the whole idea was corny. Of course, the minute I started reading it, I became obsessed. I don’t know how many months I went without reading a book because my days and nights were spent wrapped up in fan fiction.
But, it wasn’t until SusanAshlea started writing Super Nova that I actually considered writing fan fic myself. I started small with my first story, Illumination. Since then, I’ve written Lost and Found and have started a companion story, Blessed are the Patient. SusanAshlea and I also write a Golden Girls/Twilight crossover crackfic called Thank You for Being a Friend. Writing fan fic has been an incredible experience. Speaking as someone who never wrote creatively before trying fan fic, I would encourage anyone with the desire to write a fic to give it a try. In fact, MVF will launch our own fan fiction site on November 20th, in conjunction with the release of New Moon. We hope you will share your fics with us. Of course, we welcome Twilight fic, but we will also be looking for great True Blood, Vampire Diaries, and other fic based on popular vampire series.
I would remiss if I didn’t mention my time at Simply Twilight. I was a Fan Fiction Administrator and Validation beta there for six months. In that time, I gained a whole new appreciation for fan fiction. I met some awesome people, discovered a ton of very talented writers, and formed a close bond with the other co-owners of this site. While I was sad to see ST go, it did provide the opportunity for four good friends to band together and create a site unlike anything we have seen on the web.
Thanks for joining us at MyVampFiction. I hope that each of you will contribute to our site; it won’t be nearly as interesting without all of you giving us your thoughts and opinion and sharing your creativity with us. I would love to get to know each and every one of you, so please, contact me anytime. My email here at MVF is heather@myvampfiction.com, and you can follow me on twitter at www.twitter.com/saluki168.
