Vampires Abound!

Mouthing Off with Meesh

My name is Michelle, but most people know me as Meesh, probably one of the oldest vamp fans who hang on these boards. MyVampFiction is exactly my second foray into a fandom site in my life. I started at Simply Twilight as a technical advisor and ended up being a validation beta for the fan fiction portion of the web site before we began MyVampFiction.

So what about me might interest anyone? Hmmm, let’s start with the typical demographics. I’m a 41 year old mother of four. I have a BA in developmental child psychology and have been taking graduate level classes for fun for the past 10 years, really enjoying organizational psychology and biology. I am truly a dork, but I’m very proud of it.

I’ve been reading for a whopping 38 years now, and a rabid vampire fan for 30 of those years. My attachment to the genre began with ‘Salem’s Lot when I was 11 or 12, a movie that caused me to have the same recurring nightmare for eight years. That might have frightened some people away, but I’m not that smart. I was hooked and I’ve watched vampire movies and read vampire books ever since. My children are as addicted to scary things as I am, and they will pop up once in awhile at MyVampFiction, either as advisors in the music section (the joys of death metal, black metal, doom metal, they are awesome to behold) or as characters in the tales I tell.

I’ve been an editor for many years, and as a professional editor, I had lost my joy of reading for fun. Twilight brought that back for me. Since August of 2008, I have gone through so many books in the paranormal genres that I don’t even think I could list them accurately. The spark was lit and I found Simply Twilight and that was my start in the fandom. When we decided to branch out from just Twilight and into the broader vamp fiction genre, I was so excited. While I love Twilight, there are so many other great stories out there that I love as much and I want to talk about all of them!
Here at MyVampFiction, I’m the technical person. I install all the backend junk that makes this site exist. I also have probably the biggest mouth (hence the name of my column, Mouthing Off with Meesh), and I certainly love to tell people what I think of things. But more importantly, I am one of the four women who supply the excitement and energy that hopefully will make our blog and our site a really fun place for vamp fans of all types to hang out. I look forward to growing it with everyone!
