Drops of Mercury

Stray Thoughts

One day four years ago, I was surfing the internet for Wentworth Miller fan sites.  At the time, I was hooked on Prison Break and the hot guy that played Michael Scofield.  I started posting on a message board, never imagining that the person who would quickly become my bestie best was also on that same board.  Long story short, SusanAshlea and I became friends on that message board, eventually met in person, and two little drops of mercury bonded forever.Over the course of the time I was a member of that board, I met some wonderful people from all over the world- people that I am in contact with even now that my obsession with Wentworth has faded.  That experience made me open to meeting new people regardless of where they lived, or if I would ever meet them in person or not.  At the time, I had no idea that one book series would bring me together with more of my missing drops of mercury and create a lifetime of awesome memories.

As I’ve said before, I was initially reluctant to read Twilight.  However, after much prodding SusanAshlea finally convinced me that I was missing out on something great, and I picked up the first book.  Of course, I was hooked immediately and went to the book store to buy the remaining three books.  Shortly after I finished Breaking Dawn, the Twilight movie was released, thus further cementing my total love for all things Twilight.  So, when SusanAshlea informed me there was a convention in Dallas dedicated to Twilight I didn’t have to think long before I agreed that we should go.  Shortly after purchasing our registrations to TwiCon 2009, SusanAshlea and I became members of Chatzy, a chat room for people attending the convention.

What started out as a chat room filled with people going, or thinking about going, to TwiCon quickly became a family.  Drops of mercury from all over the country had found their missing drops and came together to form bonds that will last beyond our shared love of Twilight.  I have met people through Chatzy whom I consider some of my best friends.  We have laughed together, cried together, and have dispelled the notion that friendships made over the internet are temporary, silly flights of fancy. After Chatzy came another Twilight related fan site that brought me together with more wonderful people who have made my life so much richer than I could have ever imagined.

Now, instead of one small drop of mercury trying to make my way through life, I am part of a group of drops that have found each other.  We are bonded for life, stronger together than we ever were apart.  If I could thank Stephanie Meyer for one thing, it would be for writing a series of books that was powerful enough to bring me together with such amazing people.  Because long after I have packed away my Twilight books and movies, I will be making memories with my fellow drops of mercury.

So, to all my lovely friends, I am so thankful that our love of Twilight brought us together, but our love for each other will keep us together for many, many years to come.

Dedicated to my drops of mercury:  SusanAshlea, SarahBella, Jules, Meesh, Mo, Rachel, Lola, Liz, Emily, Tiana, Adri, Alyssa, Kat, Amber, Megan, Sam, Audrey, Court, Winter, Cessie, Katie, KT, Hills, Kiley, Kim, Sara, Tony, and Rudy.  If I missed your name, please don’t think that you are missing from my heart <3
