Vampire Diaries Week 10 Recap
I volunteered to write the recap for the new episode of Vampire Diaries that aired tonight. However, I noticed that the last episode hadn’t been reviewed. In lieu of a full review, I’m going to share the recap from tvguide.com to refresh us all on how the show left off.
Logan, didn’t anyone ever tell you “No means no?:” Picking up precisely where we left off (a great way to start any episode), Aunt Jenna refused to invite newly-risen vampire Logan Fell into her home. But not because of the vampire thing. Think more like the, “He’s Just Not That Into You” thing. Last week, Aunt Jenna was seen hitting things off with (mystical?) ring-wearing, history-teaching Alaric Saltzman who, along with a good brain wiping from Damon, is responsible for positive changes in Jeremy. So no, she doesn’t have vamp-dar. But, she saved herself. A win is a win, right?
Yeah, tell that to Daphne: Poor, poor Daphne. Aunt Jenna’s wise decision causes jogger/weather guy fan Daphne to have the worst celebrity encounter EVER! Logan’s hunger (remember Vicki?) has taken over and his emotions are out of control. Outside Aunt Jenna’s home, Logan helps himself to the aforementioned Daphne, who stops her exercise routine to meet the local celebrity, weatherman and now vampire.
Buffy and The Scoobies they are not: Via Sheriff Forbes, the council once again requests the help of Damon Salvatore in their quest to rid Mystic Falls of the vampire (or, vampires) plaguing it. Gee, I wonder why they’re not making any progress on that.
Man of the House: Hundreds of years old or not, Damon is a man and Stefan is a boy. Or at least, that’s what it looks like to the outside world. This was played up twice early on in the episode.
“So, do you like like her like her?:” More or less, that’s the question Matt’s been getting from everyone about Caroline. Matt really kept me guessing throughout this episode. I mean, of course you’re going to deny everything to your ex, but when Matt told Elena he had no interest in Caroline, I genuinely thought he meant it. Actually, it’s probably true when he’s talking with Elena. Assuming she wants him back, then there’s nobody else in the world. But as is, Matt does like like Caroline.
Too bad Caroline’s still wrapped around the finger of that last guy: Okay, so it’s mind control but Damon’s thrall over Caroline still poses a threat to the budding couple. He’s compelled Caroline to do something he can’t do on his own—use the vampire dowsing pocket watch to track Daphne’s killer. At least he’s not feeding on her anymore, right?
Damon is Logan’s Stefan: After being tracked to his warehouse hideout, Logan gets the drop on Damon and riddles his body with wooden bullets. And out of these two, Damon is the sensible one. Logan’s been on a killing spree and he can’t stop. Besides that, he’s a morning person and wants to know how Damon and his brother are able to walk in the day. It’s not just “good genes” and if Damon won’t tell, Logan will just have to shoot it out of him.
Death Becomes Him: Stefan tells Elena about the plight of the vampire. Every few years, he has to flee wherever it is he’s been calling home before people realize he’s not aging. Hasn’t this guy ever heard of L.A.?
I’ve said before and I’ll say it again, “Career night leads to nothing but disaster:” At said event, Caroline tells her mother she wants to get into broadcast journalism. After being dismissed, Caroline goes outside hoping to get a ride from Bonnie. Instead, long-time family friend and Cronkite of Mystic Falls’ weather, Logan Fell offers an all-too trusting Caroline a ride home.
What Matt Saw: Matt really does care. He can’t take his eyes off Caroline. And that comes in real handy when Elena, who now knows what Logan Fell really is, asks if he’s seen the newscaster.
“The first rule of Fight Club is—Oh, I all ready said too much:” Mayor, and Saltzman-certified “douche bag,” Charles Lockwood earns his title by trying to take the on-going feud between Jeremy and his son Ty to the next level. After breaking up a fight between the two inside the school, the Mayor takes them outside where he tells them to settle it once and for all. He continues to try and instigate the two who aren’t going along with it. Isn’t that just like teenagers? They want to fight until an adult tells them to.
Yes, what IS Ty’s problem?: Jeremy spent this episode trying to relate to Ty after realizing they both shared an interest and talent in drawing. After seeing what his dad is like, Jeremy has a real understanding of Vicki’s other ex. But Ty hasn’t had his suffering put to an end by the elder Salvatore. He’s not as willing to bond with Jeremy. After being asked what his problem is, Ty stormed off saying “I don’t know” while the camera lingered on the full moon above Mystic Falls.
Damon always takes the BBD (big, better deal): After having stopped Logan and finally having him right where Damon wants him— in front of a gun loaded with wooden bullets— Logan throws another bargaining chip on the pile. A chip Damon can’t resist. Logan knows how to open the tomb underneath the old church.
How exactly does a vampire have sex without a heartbeat?: And talk about a cold lover, huh? After weeks of “Will they? Won’t they,” Elena and Stefan did. Their happiness doesn’t last long, however. While Stefan’s out of the room, Elena finds the picture of Katherine. Yeah, that’s not good.
Alaric the Vampire Slayer: Under the guise of wanting to talk to Logan about his treatment of their mutual friend Jenna, Alaric went to Logan’s warehouse. Now, Mr. Saltzman either really cares about Jenna or he went there prepared to face a vamp because who brings a stake to a man-to-man?
Full Circle: And so, after ten episodes of death, witchcraft and drama we’re back here where the pilot began— a lonely back road, where an SUV drives through the night. This time, it’s Elena driving the car that plows into a mysterious figure. The force causes her car to flip over, giving her a perfect view of what—make that who—she hit. Well, everything but their face, that is. The figure gets up off the ground in a manner that would give the chick from The Grudge shivers and stops at Elena’s car while she screams for help.
