Pinch yourself, MVF

Have you ever had one of those moments where you had to pinch yourself because you didn’t believe it was happening? Where you thought, surely, I’m going to wake up and this is all going to be a dream? Where…okay, you get what I’m trying to say. Well, the ladies of MyVampFiction had one of those moments this week.
All of us who regularly write for the MVF blog are huge fans of this little series called Black Dagger Brotherhood. You may have heard us talk about it? Meesh and I discussed our opposing views of Wrath in a character study, Meesh and Heather squared off about Bella, shellan to Zsadist, and Pappy Dan even fielded questions after reading Dark Lover. We have talked about why we like and dislike the idea of Xhex and John Matthew together. (*make sure you’re 18 before clicking the links). The BDB forums are the most popular topics over in the Lair as well. The only reason we haven’t talked more about it is because we try to discuss all books in the vampire and paranormal fiction genre.
So, one day, Megsly and I were talking on the phone during our respective drives home from work, as is our normal custom and she was trying to come up with a topic to blog about. She mentioned that she might do a blog about authors out there who request that no fan fiction be written based on their work. Since MVF has a firm stance on that topic, I thought it was a good idea. She sent me the blog later that night to proof and I loved it. Little did we know, one of those authors ended up reading that very blog post.
We were rewarded by an email from none other than J. R. Ward wanting to know how to get in touch with Megsly to thank her for that blog post. Saluki discovered the email and after we google chatted and blackberried back and forth over “do you think it’s really her?” “I think it’s probably legit, do you think it’s legit?” for awhile, we decided that it was legit, hoax be damned. Eventually we were able to confirm that the email did, in fact, come from The Warden herself (as she is known on the message boards at her official site…which you should ALL visit). Yup, our teeny tiny little insignificant blog had somehow graced the computer screen of our collective favorite author.
Why?
Because Megsly publicly took a stand for what is right: authors who request that no fan fiction be written based on their works should have their request respected. And Megsly herself was rewarded with a lovely email from Ms. Ward. We have been fortunate enough to correspond with her a couple of times here at MVF. And she is just as delightful as we had always hoped she would be. And the fact that she would take time out of her busy schedule to sit down and drop us a line gives us all a new appreciation for her and other authors who like to be in touch with their fans.
And this:
“I can see why your site is going so well- everyone who’s associated with it has been so lovely.”
gives us all the warm fuzzies.
Things like this just goes to show that doing what’s right is what’s best, whether it’s popular or not. You never know who might be watching. We’ve pinched ourselves quite a few times in the last few days…and it hurt.
Have a blessed day!
First of all, sooooooooooo jealous!
Secondly, you ladies definitely deserve it and the WARDen speaks only the truth in that message! The site is amazing and so are the fantastic women behind it!
Congrats on the email! :D
So, I was on twitter when this was going down and have already expressed how pleased I am for you girls that your hard work is being noticed and rewarded… but i’m going to sat it again. Well done on a great job here, the blogs and the site as a whole are a total win.
It’s moments like this that makes all the hard work and headaches associated with running a website worth it. Don’t get me wrong, I love MVF and all of our fantastic supporters, but make no mistake, it’s not always fun and games. But getting an email from JR Ward – holy crow – it makes me speechless to think about it. I’m blown away by the fact that she not only read Megsly’s blog, but also took the time to reach out to her and MVF in thanks for our support. And, the fact that she has responded graciously to each subsequent email makes me admire and respect her so much more. Like SusanAshlea said, I will never again take for granted what I write here, because you truly never know who is reading it.
