RIP Peter Steele
Wrath has died, or at least that’s how it feels to me. Any Black Dagger Brotherhood fan who follows the WARDen’s board knows Peter Steele is Wrath in the flesh. If you don’t know who he is, he’s the lead singer of Type O Negative, a goth metal band. He’s 6’7″ tall, long black hair, fangs (yes, real actual fangs), and he looks exactly as JR Ward describes Wrath. Well, he did look exactly as JR Ward describes Wrath. He died last night, at the age of 48.

I’m not sure why this is such a big deal to me, but it really makes me sad. Ever since I got hooked on BDB and Sue and I decided who our brothers were, Peter Steele has been my Wrath. I found the band because of Black Dagger Brotherhood, and they quickly became my favorite. I listen to Type O Negative every day on my treadmill. I listen on my way to work, on my way home. Their music is hypnotic and it just makes me feel better. It also gives me something in common with my 19 year old son, who is also sad about the death of Peter Steele.
So what is so great about Peter Steele and Type O Negative? Let’s start with perfect vampire music. Goth metal is music to read vamp porn by. Everything Dies, Black No. 1, Love You to Death, Everyone I Love Is Dead. Many of their songs are dark, but they have such humor to them as well. My favorite Type O song is I Know You’re Fu**ing Someone Else. There is a line in there “you have cock on your mind and cum on your breath”, not to mention yelling “you bloody whore”, it cracks me up every time I sing along. How can you not love music that makes you laugh?
Sue and I spent hours, days really, trading Peter Steele porn – pictures of Peter Steele playing his guitar, singing, actual naked pictures if we couldn’t help but stumble across them. He has (had) the best fingers I’ve ever seen. His bass guitar has a chain strap, and that strap across his big body, with his long fingers working those strings, and the flash of his fangs… Oh wow, am I sad that I won’t ever get to see them live. Thank goodness there are a lot of videos on YouTube for me to watch.
Music is a big part of our life here at my house. My sons are all into death metal, goth metal, doom metal. I love the stuff, too, so Type O fit in perfectly. The fact that the music fit the vampire genre so well for me was just a great big fat bonus.
By all accounts, especially his own, Peter Steele was a tortured soul, tormented in life and it fed into his art. He had a drug habit, mental health issues, and it became obvious recently that his hard living days were catching up with him. I am sending prayers to the universe that he will find peace now that he is no longer in this life, and that his next life will be less chaotic and painful for him. I am thankful for his mesmerizing music and for the hours of entertainment he has provided me.

I’m a huge Type O Negative fan thanks to one of their songs was on one of the Mortal Kombat movies sound Track. The Song was Blood and Fire (out of the Ash remix.) It was a socked to me when I learned he had died i didn’t hear anything about it on tv if I did I wasn’t paying any attention to it. Your right He was the perfect guy who also remined me of Wraith. Good Chose to chose him.
I was shocked when it said he was only 48. He looks years older than my dad, who is only 56. He was so obviously unhappy in this life, and the way he abused his body showed it. I am not a fan of death metal, but I did enjoy some of the things that were happening musically in his songs.

I don’t think you have to be a big fan of the band to enjoy some of the sounds that came from this man. His voice drips sex, as do many of the lyrics. Be My Druidess has a chorus of “I’ll do anything to make you come”, and the way he sings it, I have no doubt he means it.
I can’t believe he was only 48. His face and body showed how hard he used himself. Sue, you must tell me that I look decades younger than he, because being 42, I’m now wondering.
Aww damn! Gotta say, not a HUGE fan of Type O, but they were a good band. Love “My Girlfriend’s Girlfriend”. And I once saw an interview with Peter on an old Fuse show called “Uranium” and he’s so sarcastic and funny. Also openly admitted to sleeping while holding onto his penis since it’s his most valuable possession, lol.
Oh and he did “Playgirl” so the stumbling upon naked pics thing doesn’t surprise me haha.

One of my favorite lines is “Trust and you’ll be trusted, said the liar to the fool.” Really profound message from a metal band. But there are lots of lyrics from their songs that I love. And the sense of humor that Peter had, especially when he was discussing himself, it was just awesome. And that humor came through in their songs.
My heart is sad tonight.
this makes me entirely sad.. Type O is, and always will be, one of my all time fave bands. they are/were amazing with every thing they did. RIP Pete, you were something else.
