The Wait Is Killing Me!

Mouthing Off with Meesh

It’s April. April 1st to be exact. 26 days until Lover Mine is in my hands. 26 days until I’ve devoured the latest in the Black Dagger Brotherhood series, my most favorite soft core vamp porn of all time. Oh, and I coined a phrase, it seems, as everyone in my office uses “soft core vamp porn” to describe the stuff I read. It makes me laugh to hear other people using my words like that, but the words are apt. These books are so damn hot they should be sold with a brown paper cover. But seriously, the wait is killing me.

I was thinking about how many book series I wait for like a meth addict waits for the drain cleaner to settle out. There are a lot of them. The Black Dagger Brotherhood is the one I jones for the most, but it isn’t the only one. The last in the Fever series (Karen Marie Moning) should be out soon, that being a relative term. I’m going crazy trying to figure out who IYD is. CRAZY. I’d like to soon see another Mortal Instruments book. I don’t even know if there is going to be a fourth book, but given how the third ended, there better be a fourth. I want to know how to Jace and Clary fare in the end. I also want to see more of Clary with her mom since we saw so little of that relationship and with Clary having so much more knowledge of her heritage, it should be interesting. A new Lords of the Underworld (Gena Showalter) is out in June, and I’ve already pre-ordered it. So it will be delivered to my Kindle the day it is released and I’m ready for it.

Then there are the series that I love but had to stop reading because of some quirk (of mine) or another. I lost track of how many Dark Hunter series books there are, as after Acheron I stopped reading that series for a bit. I can’t recommend this series enough, though, especially if you’re a BDB fan. If you want to read a book series that a) has enough books to keep your desire fed and b) can break your heart and make you want to protect big strong scary hunters, this is a series you should read. Sherilyn Kenyon does a great job at pulling emotions out that I usually reserve for only those very close to me. Weirdness all around. One note of “warning”, the first book in the series is a bit cheesy. I liked the first book, but it is in no way indicative of what the rest of the series is like. I was reading through them so fast, then I hit Acheron and it was wickedly painful. I had to stop. It’s been a long time since I’ve picked up a DH book because I want to read Acheron again but when I say “painful”, I mean the kind of painful that makes me want to castrate a few people and feed their testicles to one another while they watch the blood drip from the hole I left behind. Ladies, if you think V had a rough childhood, read Acheron and be ready for it. His life was the kind of hell that makes my mommy instinct go into overdrive. Again, I wanted to protect him from all the assholes that didn’t love him. This is a good series. I suggest you read it even if you think the first one is silly. The rest aren’t. Promise.

I stopped reading the Anita Blake, Vampire Hunter (Laurell K. Hamilton) series after book 15 or 16, because it just got too weird for me. Those of you who’ve read this series will probably say “It took that long for it to get too weird??” Truly, it got too weird for me around book 10, maybe even sooner, but the story is good and I love Anita, would love to be able to kick ass the way she does. But there are some twists in the story that are just downright strange in a way that got to be too much. The Merry Gentry series (also written by Laurell K. Hamilton) is good, but again, it’s very sexually “deviant”, and I use that word with great affection. I’m not averse to some excellent deviant behavior in a story, but in these books, it’s a matter of quantity of deviant behaviors. I mean, Merry lets a goblin/sidhe eat a bit of her flesh and she has a whole cadre of fae guard lovers, not the least of which is known as “her Darkness”, an allusion to both the color of his skin, but also to the depth of his power. It’s an enjoyable series to read. Merry kicks ass like Anita does and I love a strong female lead, but I got my fill of odd with the two series and decided to move on for awhile.

I just started reading The Hunger Games, which is a series of books, and I’m sure it’s going to be a good one. And I can’t end my article without plugging a completely non-vamp related book that was written by a great writer, Daniel Black. It’s called Perfect Peace and it’s a compelling story. Daniel is a master at telling a story that will leave you speechless. This is his third book and it’s his best so far (though I do love all of his stuff).

I haven’t been reading as much as usual, but it’s because I’m waiting for all my favorite series to come out with their new books. Does anyone know when the next Fallen Angel book is due out? I’m also waiting for the next book in The League series, but have no clue when it’s supposed to be published. I really need my fix and thankfully April 27th is close. I wonder if Amazon is taking pre-orders on Lover Mine.

    22 days when I post this comment…

Seriously thinking of pre-ordering it (along with SM’s novella) so I can (hopefully) guarantee that I have it in my hands on the 27th.

In the non-paranormal realm, I’m addicted to Gossip Girl and the It Girl. The characters are way bitchy and way slutty but I love it! Glad I didn’t go to high school (or boarding school) in NYC cause of those books…

In the paranormal genre, addicted to the Dark Realm series by Delilah Devlin. I’ve read through book three and can’t find 4-6 ANYWHERE. Seriously bumming me out. But so amazing and, *ahem* defo NOT soft core vamp porn. Cranks it up a notch or 5 from BDB, and that’s saying something….

I can’t wait for Lover Mine! I am so excited. I’m thrilled that I will be reading it when it comes out along with everyone else since I’m caught up on the series. I foresee some major chatting in our future :)

I definitely want to check out the Dark Hunter series; every time I see the name Sherilyn Kenyon I think of you Meesh!

I’m waiting for the Fever series to be delivered to my local library, but book 1 has been checked out and is reserved for another person after that. I hate waiting but am too cash poor to buy another series at the moment. The library is my friend.

    Is it April 27 yet?

I cannot wait to get my hands on Lover Mine! I think I’m going to buy it for my eReader. That has to be the best present I have ever received! I haven’t been able to find any information on the next book in the Fallen Angel series, so if you find something out, be sure to let me know!

I’m reading another adult vamp series by Lara Adrian. The first book in the series is “Kiss of Midnight”. The vamps in this story are also warriors, big, tough, sexy vamps….more soft core vamp porn. You might want to check them out.
