Meesh’s top 10 favorite authors (for now)

I thought tonight I’d make a list of my 10 favorite vamp/paranormal authors and their web sites. Sort of a self-serving list of “who does Meesh read the most and how can she make a list in one place so she doesn’t have to Google them anymore” list. I could go on and on about something useless again, but I really think it would be nice to have a sort of easy guide to the authors and books I like to keep up with.
1. Let’s start with one of my two favorites, the author of my very favorite book series, JR Ward. No need for an introduction or blurb about how wonderful she is, I’m sure. The Black Dagger Brotherhood speaks for itself.

2. My other favorite author of the paranormal genre is Sherilyn Kenyon. Her Dark Hunter and Dream Hunter books are delicious reads, and her site is a lot of fun to travel through. Acheron would easily win “most sexy god”, hands down.

3. The Fever series is another one of my favorites, and probably my favorite story of fae. The author has written a story that so many of us are dying to see how it ends. Karen Marie Moning knows how to suck us in with her tales of Mac and Barrons.

4. I started reading Anita Blake, Vampire Hunter right after I started the BDB series. It has one of the darkest, most twisted storylines I’ve come across that has all the elements of the paranormal. Laurell K. Hamilton also writes the Merry Gentry series, a story of a fae princess, tha is also really good.

5. Cassandra Clare writes the Mortal Instruments series and while I know the series is a young adult series, it is really, really good.

6. Another young adult series that I’ve thoroughly enjoyed is the House of Night series, by P.C. Cast and Kristin cast. This actually should count as two in my list because I’m going to link to both the author site for P.C. Cast and the House of Night site.

7. Melissa Marr is the author of Wicked Lovely series. This is another YA series about faeries, and it is fun and dark and just a little bit dangerous (or a lot dangerous, depends on your definition).

8. Lords of the Underworld is another series that keeps me waiting and counting down the days for a new book to come out. Gena Showalter created characters from demons held in Pandora’s Box and I never would have guessed I could love these evil beings.

9. Kresley Cole writes the Immortals After Dark series and while I haven’t read many of this series yet, they’re definitely on my “OMFG, I can’t wait to get to these books” list.

10. Okay, so technically this isn’t a vampire or paranormal author, but since I really gave two links and two authors with number 6, I feel it’s okay for me to sneak in one author I absolutely love. Daniel Omotosho Black is by far my absolutely favorite author in the entire world. I get to pre-read his work, and each of his stories is better than the last. I started editing his work before he was published, with They Tell Me of a Home, and after having his third book, Perfect Peace, published, I’m once again waiting on the edge of my chair for his next novel. Or short story. Or any writing he’d like to share with me because this guy is by far the best storyteller I’ve ever had the pleasure of reading. Think Claude Brown and Manchild in the Promised Land, and set the story in the rural South, and you’ve got the picture.

So there you have my ten, or eleven, favorite authors right now. I know there are so many more excellent ones out there, but these are the authors I’ve done the most reading of in the past three years. I know Twilight isn’t in the list, but come on, isn’t it overdone anyway? Anyone who is a fan has that site address memorized by now.
Have a great week and safe travels!
Megsly, the Merry Gentry series is a lot like the Anita Blake series – very pornographic and odd. I quit reading after the 15th or 16th book of AB,VH because the weird factor had worn out its welcome. The Merry Gentry series is interesting because of the discussion of the different courts and the politics of the world of fae. Anita Blake got to the point where it was way more weird than it was interesting.
Thanks for the list! There are a couple of authors on there I need to check out now :D
And… my reading list just got bigger. ;) Thanks for all the book recs!
Laurell K Hamilton writes a fae series? OMG must have! I’m on book 7 of the Anita Blake series. I read them a little bit at a time since the series is sooooo long. Totally love her. I think our tastes are very similar, I think I’m going to reference your list quite frequently now to remember which books are next on my to-read list!
