Being Human, my newest television addiction

A few weeks ago, my husband asked me if I watched “Being Human”. At the time, I had no idea what he was talking about. He went on to inform me it was a “vampire show” on the BBC. Score one for the husband. I love that he humors my vampire obsession. I mean, he got me a poster of Edward Cullen for my birthday *lol* Of course, as soon as he told me about the show, I was instantly intrigued.

I was able to find it online and eagerly watched the first episode. The basic premise of the show is that Mitchell, a vampire, and George, a werewolf are both orderlies at a hospital. They decide to move in together and find out that the flat they are renting is inhabited by a ghost. Together, they struggle with fitting in among humans, while trying to deal with all of the stuff that comes along with being of the supernatural persuasion.

Mitchell is a vampire who is on the wagon. He has been a vampire since WWI, so he’s adjusted to the lifestyle. But, that doesn’t mean he has found happiness with what he is. The first episode reveals that he changed a woman named Laura on their first date, only to abandon her in panic and horror. This act spurs him to go blood free. Mitchell struggles against his nature, even as the vampire community tries to lure him back in.

George was bitten by a werewolf while in Scotland on holiday. He’s a brilliantly smart but socially inept guy who leaves behind everything and everyone he knows in order to protect them from “what he has become”. In one hand, he’s so in denial about his condition he can’t even admit he’s a werewolf, but on the other hand he leaves his job, family, and fiancee all because he’s afraid of hurting them. Conflicted? In a word, that’s George.

Annie is a ghost, living in the house that she died in – the house her fiance still owns. Annie is visible to George and Mitchell. Whether she is visible to humans depends on her mood, which makes for some hilarious moments on the show. She is also still very much in love with her fiance, at least until she finds out a very dark secret about him.

I’m half way through the first season and I admit, I’m addicted to this show. My only regret is that I don’t have enough time to watch more than an episode here and there. But, that gives SusanAshlea time to catch up with me. Watch for future posts for reviews and discussions about the show.

For today, I wanted to introduce you to the show and hopefully peak your interest in it. It has quickly become one of my favorite television shows. The characters are well written, the plot is interesting, and the vampire is hot. Plus there is the British accents *dreamy sigh*

  1. I definitely think this sounds like an intriguing show. The fact that it’s BBC? Bonus. I need more time in the day!

Great introduction to this show :-) Thanks Steve!

  2. I must admit I loved this show, too. George is adorable, Mitchell is hot and it works surprisingly well.
