Character Lounge Interview: Ryeward

banner
Are you reading Coming Through the Rye by Mac?  Let me tell you, if you’re not, you are most certainly missing out on one of the most entertaining characters I’ve ever met.  Thanks to Mac I had the opportunity to sit down with Edward aka “Ryeward” and ask a few questions.  I’d like to offer my gracious thanks to both Mac and Edward for taking time out of their day to chat with me and also for the candid answers I received.

I would also like to say thank you to the following readers for submitting their questions and making my job easier (I didn’t have to think I just got to listen to the answers in that dreamy Scottish accent.):  SNCmom, Hotmama4jd, XtotheY, betsmecullen, AmyK, Sunfeathers and Saluki.  I may have tossed in a few of my own but I’m not saying which ones!

For the record: When Edward walked in I seriously saw stars and thought I was going to faint.  I couldn’t help my eyes drift below the waistline and I must say, even from my quick glance I can tell you ladies the legend of BK is absolutely real.  Thank goodness Mac was there – she cleared her throat and made sure I didn’t make a fool of myself with the gawking. Without further ado, I give you Ryeward.

me: What’s your libation of choice because, I’m buying! You might need it to answer a few of these questions…

Edward: I’m drinking a pint o’ Murphys, lass

me: It’s on me…ready to do this?

Edward: Aye

me: Alright, first things first: When did you first realize you had feelings for Bella? And how could you not consider that she would have feelings for you? It’s not like she could come out and tell you since you were basically with Senna throughout the course of your friendship.

Remember, readers asked these questions…don’t kill the messenger

Edward: Er, weel, I’ve always thought Bella was quite bonny. From the first we were guid friends. Whit’s nae tae like? She’s gorgeous an’ fun tae be aroond. Not tae mention I can talk aboot shinty and rugby wi’ her, and she ken whit she’s talking aboot.

me: that’s pretty bad ass for a lass

Edward: As fer how she felt aboot me, weel, how was I supposed tae ken she liked me? She never told me, and I dinnae read minds.

me: Fair enough. So, when you first met Brady (the very same evening as Bella did) you seemed less than pleased. Considering you were still with Senna at the time, what was behind that reaction?

Edward: Weel, when we winched I ken tha’ something had changed between us. At least it did fer me. I juist didnae want her gaun oot wi’ someone. I was sae mixty maxter a’ tha’ point.

me: I understand. I know you’re a good guy. I can see that.

When you first met Bella, were you attracted to her, or is it something that developed over time? And did you truly consider yourself in love with Senna?

Sorry, some of these may seem similar

Edward: O’ coorse I was attracted tae her. But I willnae say it was love at first sight. We spent a lot o’ time togither over the years, and the more I time I spent wi’ her, the more I liked her. I didnae let myself consider her as more than a friend, though, because she didnae seem available tae me. Now Senna… weel, I was thinking wi’ my boaby, pure and simple. I wanted tae be with someone after the wedding – it was sae guid wi’ Bella, and I just figured Senna was it. I thought I loved her fer a while, but it was nothing compared to whit I felt fer Bella.

me: Pardon me for swooning *recomposes self* So what was your very first impression of Bella?

Edward: She’s a smart lass, and verra funny.

me: How about something a little different to break it up?

What did you think about when you realized you would probably have to go back home since you were no longer employed?

Edward: Och, I wasnae pure pleased, I can tell ye that. My first thought was tae get fair blootered and stairt packing.

me: Luckily the fates had something else in mind for ye

Okay…I’m not sure why but this was a popular question from your followers: Honestly, were pink elephants the only choice you had for your checks? There wasn’t anything else available that was more …manly? That would fit you better?

Edward: I cannae say I cared a great deal whit my checks looked like. I just went wi’ whit the bank sent me.

me: Alright, that works. Why do you hoard your stinky gym and athletic clothes? Is it just a guy thing or is it a fixation?

Edward: It wasnae intentional, I swear it. I just kept forgetting all the clothes in my locker, and then I just forget tae wash them when I got them hame. I didnae expect them to reek up th’ apartment!

me: *laughing* I see you’ve finished your pint, care for another?

Edward: Aye, thank ye

me: Alright, it’s on its way. What was your parents reaction when you told them you were getting married?

Edward: They were quite pleased. They ken all aboot Bella. I’ve talked aboot her a fair bit, and my mum is friends wi’ Maisie. It wouldnae surprise me a bit if I found oot tha’ my mum and her were scheming tae get us togither in the first place. My mum didnae like the soond o’ Senna one bit.

me: Smart woman

Edward: Women have a sixth sense, they do.

me: Speaking of Senna. What happened when you first visited Senna after you and Bella got married? You seemed kinda down…

Edward: Weel, nothing, really. It’s just tha’ nothing seemed right wi’ her. She winched me, an’ all I could see was Bella. Sae, I put her aff. I just couldnae do anything wi’ her if Bella was in my head… it seemed disrespectful tae both of ‘em.

me: Like I said, I know you are an honorable guy.

Edward: My mum will be happy tae hear ye think sae.

me: How’r you doing? Need a break or should I keep going?

Edward: I’m guid.

me: And I would love to meet your mum sometime. My friend Paul is from Scotland and I just adore him and his parents. Good folk. Here’s a fun one: What kind of music do you listen to?

Edward: I like the Rolling Stones and Oasis.

me: Your wife is a popular subject. Let me know if anything gets uncomfortable for you.

Did you ever have inappropriate thoughts about Bella when you were still just friends?

Edward: Of coorse I did. I’m nae a monk.

me: Before you were married, did guys ever ask you about Bella or show interest in her – how did it make you feel? (Protective, amused, jealous?)

Edward: Aye, Seth in my department was mad fer her. Mike at the Dark Horse was after her fer years. I dinnae think I was jealous – I didnae think I had the right tae be… but I didnae love the idea of it.

me: She’s beautiful. What do you miss the most about Scotland?

Edward: Mostly just seeing my family. My mum and da are gettin’ older, sae I worry aboot being sae far away from them if anything should happen. And I miss playin’ shinty.

me: It’s like that for my friend Paul, too. He lives in San Francisco.

What was the thing that surprised you about the US when you moved here?

Edward: Everything moves much faster here. I will say tha’ it was funny tae see which stereotypes are true an’ which arenae.

me: I feel you. It’s quite a mad dash here. Though, I live in the mountains, a much slower pace. You might want another chug of that pint before the next couple of questions.

Edward: Aye, I’ll have a swally

me: I must confess, the accent is a turn on.

Edward: Och, weel, uh, thank ye

me: Here goes nothing. You know know that Bella has named your tadger BK. What is your name for it?

Edward: Aye, I ken – she told me. I dinnae really have a name fer my boaby.

me: *deep breath*

Recently there was, ahem, a photo of what’s hiding under your kilt making its way around the internet. Care to share how that picture came to be in the first place?

Edward: I heard aboot tha’. Tae be honest, I dinnae ken how it happened. With whit I ken aboot Senna, maybe she took it without my knowledge.

me: Well, fortunately it seems to be quite…flattering *blushing* Want one more round? Just a few more questions…

Edward: Aye, thank ye

me: Coming up. Hey, thank you. You’ve been very upfront tonight.

Did you ever think something was off or afoot with Senna prior to the time you married Bella?

Edward: Naw, nae really. She traveled a lot fer work, an’ it isnae as though she had tha’ sign for Hairy Cuntry Girls sittin’ aroond in her flat. I just thought she liked tae keep things casaul between us.

me: **busts out laughing** I’m so sorry, I just can’t help but laugh at the name of that…film

Edward: It wasnae sae funny at th’ time, but I can see noo that it is… weel, a wee bit.

me: I apologize. I’m trying to remain professional here. Forgive me?

Edward: Aye, of coorse

me: Okay…the last few will be easier, I think

We know Bella is concerned about being a rebound girl. Are you at all worried about heading so quickly into a relationship right after ending another?

Edward: Nae. I’m nae one tae hem an’ haw aboot a decision. When I ken tha’ Bella loved me and tha’ I had a real chance wi’ her, there wasnae a doobt in my mind.

me: Well, then, she’s lucky to have you…

You took Bella on a date to sharpen her knife skills laughs What meal would you most like to cook with your bonny lass?

Edward: Cookin’ Thanksgiving wi’ her was fun. We havenae tried baking anything yet, thoogh. Tha’ might be fun.

me: I personally find cooking to be a very sexy activity. Also, I quite like scars. We know you’re an aggressive sportsman. What’s your favorite scar?

Edward: I dinnae really notice my scars or whitever. Bella has a wee scar from the chicken pox thoogh. It’s on her neb – quite fetching.

me: Awww…Tell us something about Bella that just absolutely makes your heart lurch in your chest.

Not your boaby…

Edward: There’s nothing aboot her I dinnae like, even her clean freak thing. I dae like it when she snores in her sleep. It’s verra sweet.

me: You’re pretty adorable you know? In a rough, manly kind of way, of course…

Two more questions and I’ll release you so you can get back to yer wife

Edward: Aye, she’s snoring noo.

me: Okay, What are you most excited to share with Bella back home in Scotland?

Edward: Och, weel. I juist want tae show her aroond where I grew up. Glencoe is a farming area, but there’s plenty tae see.

me: Final question. If things work out with Bella, and we’re all hoping they do, what are you most looking forward to about your your life with her?

Edward: Being able to winch her without wondering if she’s thinkin’ aboot whether she can trust me. An’ I’d be lying if I didnae mention I’m lookin’ forward tae sharin’ a scratcher wi’ her.

me: I’m not lying when I say I hope that happens, for both of you. I think you make a beautiful pair.

Edward: Thank ye, lass

me: I really appreciate you taking the time to talk to me this evening. And I owe Mac a special thanks, too. And dinner. And a movie. And a massage.

Thanks for the interview, it was indeed ‘verra sweet’ and entertaining! I hope that you aren’t getting Edward blootered. I’d hate for his father to have to call his mum to drag him home by the ear!

*Sigh* What’s not to love about Edward. I’m so excited he was able to sit down with you and answer our questions. If only there was audio of the interview. Although, that might not be a good idea when I’m at work. The Scottish accent does…things…to my girly bits.

    Thanks for a great interview!
