Fan Fiction Rec: Distortion

Distortion, by Wordslinger
“There is a mutant genetic caste wired for the role of evolutionary agent: one who foresees and helps fabricate the future.” -Timothy Leary, Ph.D.
How far would you go to protect the ones you loved from a vampire who would stop at nothing to possess them? How far would you go to obtain the most power possible? You know you want to find out.
What can I say about Distortion?
First of all I’m pretty ticked off at myself for waiting so long to start reading it. Secondly, I’m shocked that it only has 7 reviews in the MVF Dungeon! That’s right: 7! My friends, we need to change that, STAT.
Distortion is by far one of the most original concepts of Twilight fan fiction I have read, and I’ve been reading Twific for almost 2 years. The plot is intricate, flawless and it is constantly surprising the reader.
Distortion is a Jacob/Bella story but it isn’t the kind of J/B story you are used to. It’s so difficult to explain how this story is written without giving away too much, but I’m going to try. To try and summarize: Bella and her mother were brought to Billy Black immediately after Bella’s birth. Billy was asked to watch over them and offer them protection under the cover of the Reservation. Jacob and Bella great up together, and from the very beginning, they were meant to be with each other.
Unfortunately, Bella is taken captive and worn down by Edward and his minions. When the story opens, we find Bella in an asylum of sorts, which is where meet Alice, Esme and a few other interesting characters. Bella has been told Jake is dead, but as with all things where any of the Cullens are involved, there is more to the story than meets the eye. Bella is lost and confused and just about the time she is about to give up, she recognizes some people from her not-so-distant past who offer their help.
A great deal of Distortion is told through flashbacks. We are given very little details as to what is really going on in the beginning, but as the story continues, more and more information about The Cullens, Bella’s capture, Jake’s “demise” and all of the other things going on in this AU tale. It a genius approach and keeps me coming back for more. I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again: Wordslinger knows how to tell a story. And that story is one everyone should be reading!

I just started this story not too long ago and I have to agree – it’s such a fascinating take and concept that I can’t wait to sink my teeth into once again. RL has been crazy or I would have already caught up with what’s been posted to date. I agree that it is quite the travesty that it has so few reviews. What that tells me is there are entirely too many people missing out on this most excellent fic.
