Vampire Academy: Frostbite, is the second book in the series by Richelle Mead. This review might contain some spoilers, especially if you haven’t read book one yet, so beware before you click.
Frostbite, starts where book one left off: Rose, the Dhampir Guardian in training is worried about her best friend, Lissa, becoming crazy. After her Uncle Victor kidnapped her and forced her to use her spirit power on him to help him overcome his disease, Lissa was put on pills to make her magic inaccessible to her, and effort to keep her from going crazy. Lissa feels her power returning though, and this frightens both her and Rose. Rose’s goal is to make sure Lissa doesn’t go crazy, but she still suffers from the side effects of not using her powers.
Demetri and Rose’s relationship continues to blossom after their not so innocent compulsion spell, but they still feel they cannot be together. When they take a trip together for Rose’s Qualifier they find themselves in some serious situations in which they are forced to rely on each other. But will this bring them closer together or rip them apart? And when a person from Rose’s past comes around, she must decide where she wants the relationship to go, and if she can forgive and forget.
We are also introduced to Adrian Ivashkov, a Moroi who falls hard and fast for Rose. He shows up when everyone at the academy goes to a ski resort because of Strigoi attacks. The question is: Will Rose fall for Adrian or stay loyal to Dimitri, even though they can’t be together?
Rose, is still worried about Lissa’s relationship with Christian, but she has so much more to worry about, such as protecting some of the students from actual Strigoi attacks. What will happen when the students need to save themselves with no real Guardians around? Will they live up to their training or lose some of their own?
Frostbite has tons of action that keeps the reader wondering what is going to come next. This book will answer several of questions from book one, and raise so many more. Make sure you have book 3, Shadow Kiss, nearby, because you will definitely want to start it as soon as you finish Frosbite!
