Welcome to October!
Tomorrow is October, the Halloween month, my favorite time of year. I love this holiday.
Most people celebrate Halloween on October 31st. I celebrate from October 1st through November 2nd, when El Dia de los Muertos is past. I have yearly rituals that I observe each year. I buy new skeleton decorations. We make and decorate sugar skulls at my house. This year I bought a cookie pan of fingers and sugar skull molds to make both chocolate lollipops and sugar skull sugar “cubes”. I’m psyched for tomorrow!
I dye my hair black every October. This year it will have bright red highlights in it too. I paint my nails red with black tips. I have awesome Halloween stockings that I will be breaking out to wear starting tomorrow, along with all my black jumpers that go to my ankles (with slits up the side to show off the bright stockings I own). Our Halloween party at work has a monsters theme this year. I’m going to be a zombie. Probably a zombie prom queen wannabe or something. One of my coworkers is going to be a zombie ballerina since she did take 15 years or more of dance. Another will be a figure skater zombie, again many years of figure skating. Since I wasn’t much of anything in high school, I can at least pretend I wanted to be prom queen. I really didn’t, but at least I can wear a really pretty dress with blood all over it.
I love, love, love dark and spooky. And mystic. A few bits of trivia about me. I own a crystal ball and tarot cards. I have a voodoo doll. In my office at work there are five skulls and a hanging skeleton that decorate my office year round. I never put my Halloween decorations away, ever. I might even make myself a poppet this year to add to the ambience. We actually discussed getting a life size skeleton to sit in a chair in the corner. The whole office has gotten into the spirit with me, which is awesome considering this is the first place I’ve worked that everyone appreciated these quirks. So go me!
We have some very exciting things in store for My Vamp Fiction for the month of October. I was really thrilled when the idea was brought up, to celebrate the dark and spooky all month. We’re going to have ghost stories and personal ghost accounts. We’re going to focus on things that go bump in the night. The haunting of My Vamp Fiction will be in full swing, so please be sure to check back with us often to see what we’re doing next!
