Sassy Says I’m a sucker for a good romance, but…

I am a sucker for romance. When the Heroine first gets a glimpse of Mister Tall Dark And Handsome, it makes my heart melt. But do you know what I never see any of? Gay paranormal romance books.

Trust me, I like a good romantic as most of you all do, but being gay, I would like to see some more gay friendly books with the elements of fiction I like.

The love story in Twilight is what made me love the series. The fact that Edward has someone like Bella, someone he loves unconditionally, and without a second thought, really made my inner romantic super happy. Watching their relationship blossom, and work out into the wedding and then the birth of Renesme really was special.

It seems to me that if there is a gay character in a series, he’s always the assistant, or side kick.

Cassandra Clare has a gay character in her book. So far I have only read City of Bones, since my roommate stole City of Ashes from me when she finished City of Bones, So I’m not sure exactly if Alec ever gets into any sort of a relationship, but it is refreshing to know that there at least is a gay character in a series that I am interested in that isnt a sidekick or a throw-away character.

Trust me, I’ve read and written my fair share of Slash-Fic, but there is just so much you can do with characters that are already been defined as straight in my head. Also, the problem with slash is normally I like a paring that no one else writes, or if there is Fic written about it, its really shoddily done. Plus, I’m not always looking for PWP Fic, I want a full-blown romance with two men.

I would love, a book, where it opens on a man, and somewhere along the way he finds his true love, in another man. Be it a Vampire, a Shifter, a Warlock or a Fae. I want man-lovings, and I want to read about them in a lovey-dovey romantic way.

Do any of you agree with me?

And That’s what Sassy Says.

  1. SB- That’s good to know! I’m excited to finish the series.

Meg- *Perk* I can read nao, yes?

Jules- I may have to give BDB a try. You never know until you try if you’re going to like something, right?

Saluki- Most of it ends up being Etorica. I have nothing agaisnt PWP, but theres just a point where i want to read sappy lovey-dovey snuggles and romance, not just straight up Porn.

Char- The Roomie i mentioned in this post is also called Char, so i was confused for a moment hehe, I am so intrigued about this series you are writing! Thanks for the comment!

  2. I have a fanfic series with a bisexual character falling in love with another male. Honestly, love the two of them seperately AND together and I’m DYING to get into their story. Unfortunately, I hafta finish the one I’m working on at the moment first…sigh….

I think you’re right on, Sassy. I’m sure there are books out there if you look for them, but more mainstream authors should consider branching out and writing books with gay characters. Like Jules said, BDB has two characters who actually have their own story/plotline, but even there, their story is going to be a novella. I can definitely see wanting to read books with characters you can relate to in a deeper way. Great post!

  4. Hey Sweet Sassy,

I do know what you are saying. If love is done right, it doesn’t matter what kind of sexual pairings are involved – I love a good romance period.

I’m not going to go out and recommend these books to you, because I know that your lovely roomie said you wouldn’t dig ‘em (plus you’d have to read through quite a few to get there) But there is a pairing in the Black Dagger Brotherhood series that is leading towards that fulfilling, happily-ever-after kind of love. I personally can’t wait for that story to play out between < <<>>>

    Qhuinn and Blaylock.

Just wanted you to know that I get what you’re saying and I agree with it wholeheartedly.

You’ll be pleased to know when (if) I ever get one of my OF’s published, it has a gay character who definitely get’s some lovin’ and he’s not a side kick either :) Also, I have a friend whos in the process of publishing his novel, which is a paranormal romance, and the two male leads are very, very hot. Especially together ;)

Alec does get some lovin’. I’ve read through City of Glass and just got CoFA. He does have a love interest through the series and from what I’ve heard, Alec gets his moments.
