Confessions: March Edition

Telling someone about your obsession…
Now you know that I’m pretty closeted when it comes to fic. My family and close friends don’t know about it. Sure I post my real picture on my twitter account however, only two real life friends (who I met through another fandom) actually know about that account.
Recently I gained a new RL friend. This semester, oddly enough I was taking Biology at the local community college with some other sciences, which I’ve since dropped thanks to a psychotic professor. My lab partner and I struck up an immediate friendship, talking about everything in general. We especially bonded when a peculiar girl who sat at our table went on and on about the crappy vampire fiction that is out there, lumping in Twilight and The Black Dagger Brotherhood in together. As a fan of both I was immediately a little miffed but I just let the 19 year old wanna-be goth ramble about the reality of vampires. While I realize there are many people who in fact believe vampires are real, I prefer them to be in fiction and movies.
However, my lab partner simply responds by quoting Robert Pattinson that she had “just revealed herself to have absolutely no taste.” Since then we’ve become instant besties. The other night, while having a girls night complete with pizza, manicures, and awesome movies, I tentatively let it out there about the existence of fanfiction.
Her reaction though was rather receptive, albeit intrigued that grown people of varying ages actually sat down and made up stories with other people’s characters. It reminded me of when I first encountered fanfiction way back in my preteen days. Her eyes were wide when I informed her of the various -ward incarnations. Though she is not an E/B kind of girl (which made my wolf lovin’ heart proud). She then asked if there’s Harry Potter fan fiction to which I grinned widely that there’s probably even more HP fic than most fandoms out there. I think I just might have piqued her interest there.
Although I haven’t told her that I actually write fanfiction, it’s nice to know that someone I know at least knows I read it now. And maybe, just maybe I can get her into it as well.
Until next time!
