Reader’s Block?

Usually around this time of year I am planning and plotting my summer reading list based on upcoming release dates, my ever growing list of TBRs and whatever sounds good for a day at the beach.
Today, looking outside, all I see is snow and stormy skies. Pouting has ensued. For some reason, the sun inspires me to pick up different kinds of books.
During the winter and cooler months, I like to cuddle up indoors, escape into paranormal or fantasy worlds found in book like the Fever Series or Harry Potter, maybe something even darker, like Stephen King.
Summer has me picking up different types of books for instance, “Are You There Vodka, It’s Me, Chelsea” by Chelsea Handler or the comic novel “Persepolis” by Marjane Satrapi.
Now I find myself in a pickle, my “want to read” list as confuddled as the weather lately. Every book I pick up doesn’t have the right feel, the right fit which is strange considering the ecclectic pile I have sitting on my nightstand at home. There you will find everything from “A Discovery of Witches” to “The Host” to “The Long Hard Road Out of Hell” by Marilyn Manson. Also on tap? The 9th Wife as recommended to me by my friend Nicole, waiting to be downloaded and devoured.
I have heard of “Writer’s Block” but Reader’s Block? I think, for now, I will just blame the unseasonal weather for my sudden onset of R.B. but am wondering if anyone else has met with this phenomenon?
I know, short and sweet this week but that’s where I’m at.
Just Sayin’
I just hit the Reader’s Block wall. I have no desire to pick up another book. It’s very unnerving.
I have read so little the last few months. Sometimes life interferes and takes too much of my attention and reading just becomes an afterthought. Then, of course, there’s a breakthrough and I’ll read like a fiend for awhile (like the two year spree that recently ended). I think it’s normal.
Jules, you’re not alone. I frequently have this problem, and sometimes when I saturate myself in paranormal fiction for so long, I feel like I need a palette cleanser. A few months ago, I ended up reading the LA Candy series by Lauren Conrad to kind of “wash the paranormal: out of my hair. *lol*
Hopefully you’ll get some fun and sun soon out there and you’ll get the reading jones again!
I know exactly how you feel, Jules. I have been on a reading bender – often reading three different books at the same time. I don’t know whether I’ve burnt myself out, or if it has something to do with the change in seasons, but I find that I’m having a harder time getting books to hold my attention. Hopefully we will both snap out of our slump soon and get back into our reading groove!
