Beach Reads: Smorgasboard o’ books
A perfect series to start this summer is the Stephanie Plum series by Janet Evanovich. Stephanie Plum is a bounty hunter in New Jersey, working for her cousin Vinny. Vinny is gambler with some odd sexual fetishes who somehow manages to run a semi-successful business. When Stephanie couldn’t get a job anywhere else, Vinny hired her as a bounty hunter, despite the fact that she had no experience. Her lack of experience doesn’t stop her from occassionally catching a skip, but it does manage to land her in hot water more than once. Author Evanovich creates a cast of characters in this story that will have you in stitches. Lula, a voluptous former prostitute and lover of spandex, is probably my favorite character in the series. Of course, there’s a love triangle, which finds Stephanie choosing between her sometimes cop boyfriend Joe Morelli, and the mysterious and very sexy Ranger. This series combines action, humor, and romance to produce the perfect books for reading while you’re lounging in the sun. Check out the first book in the series, “One for the Money” and I bet you’ll keep reading until you catch up with the latest novel “Smokin Seventeen”.
