From the Printed Page to the Silver Screen

Have you heard the dreamy news? Dreamworks has acquired the rights to the film adaptations of Karen Moning’s Best Selling Fever series.
Can you imagine, Jericho Z. Barrons on the big screen? The transformation of one MacKayla Lane right before your eyes?
Let’s hold up for a minute. There are questions to be addressed.
These books are adult. Not Harry Potter. Not Twilight. Will the production house take that into account when rating or will they wish to reach a broader audience and disappoint the reader base?
The series is packed full of action, violence, and loads of sexual innuendo that are crucial to the suspense and draw of these amazingly weaved stories. Watered down to a PG-13 level? I don’t see how it could be done.
What about the casting?
I have my my own image of JZB and Ms. Lane in my head, do you? Casting is a tricky thing. It can ruin the picture a reader has created in their own mind or…it can enhance it. Barrons is not defined in my head as he is more of an enigma, so his picture is not as concrete as characters in other series. It’s not just about the image, either. What about the way an actor sounds, carries him or herself, not to mention how they breathe life into a character. I’m not only talking about Jericho, Mac is no easy peg. Her transformation will have to be believable, her spunk entwined with her Southern belle is not an easy capture.
All that I aside, I will anxiously await news about the big screen portrayal of a series I could not get enough of. It would be a dream come true if Karen Marie Moning was the one pegged to write the screenplay.
Only time will tell if this will end up a complete dream or a feverish mess. I’m hoping for the former.
Just Sayin…
“So yes, would love to see Heat Searies but no, if what was done to Twilight is done to Barrons.”
My thoughts exactly
I always pictured Gerard Butler as Barrons, though the author admittedly loves Eric Etebari.
Dreamworks is a great studio and I honestly think many production companies learned from Twilight on how NOT to make a movie adapatation. Just take a look at what they are doing with The Hunger Games. Also, Dreamworks has been around so they can probably afford a bigger budget too.
My dream cast:
JZB – Gerard Butler
Mac – Kristin Bell (Veronica Mars)
V’lane – Jason Lewis
Dani – Amy Davidson
Christian MacKeltar – Matthew Bomer (white collar)
I am so excited for this, and at the same time terrified that they will mess it up, for all the reasons you’ve listed…. Either way, I’ll be there for each movie (if they make more than one…)
I hadn’t heard that! I am excited, but at the same time nervous. Book adaptations into film can go either way: awesome, like Harry Potter, or so bad it’s good, like Twilight. Obviously, I’m hoping for the former. The Fever series is one of my all time favorites, so I really hope KMM has a great deal of control over the script and casting so that the movies translate onto the screen as close to possible as they are in the books.
I would love to see Barron’s brought to life on the big screen! But…to water him down to appeal to a wider audience would upset me. Let’s hope if it happensm KMM has a lot of say about the screenplay.
I often wonder if SM had much say. Personally, Twilight Saga was not adapted well. There were to many washed over key scenes, ex. The Meadow, a keystone to the story and was all but nothing in the movie. Then the added scenes that were not part of the book. Not needed.
So yes, would love to see Heat Searies but no, if what was done to Twilight is done to Barrons.
This news makes me sooooo happy… I am just beginning the series, but I can’t wait!
Something about Gerard Butler tells me he could pull off Mr. Barrons…
