Changing Leaves

When the weather patterns shift, wind picks up and the leaves transform into the vibrant hues of yellow, orange and red does your reading material shift as well?
For me the warm summer nights are filled with seasonal attention deficit disorder (yes, that’s completely fabricated). I like quick reads, books that I can put down if I want to have a drink with a friend, or drop what I’m doing and head to a barbecue at a moments notice.
With the arrival of autumn, this perspective changes for me. The shorter days and cooler temps leave me wanting reading material I can sink into, stories that I can immerse myself in while cozied under a blanket on my couch.
Fall always seems an appropriate time to start a new series (Good thing – I have THREE waiting). The question I pose is, where do I start?
The series lying in wait are as follows:
Dark Hunter by Sherrilyn Kenyon
About the series: In the world of the Dark-Hunters nothing is ever as it seems. Life and death both take on a whole new meaning as this immortal cadre of warriors fight to protect mankind from those creatures and demons who would prey on us. It’s dark. It’s deadly and it’s a whole lot of fun and laughter.
Lords of the Underworld by Gena Showalter
About the Series: Long ago, twelve immortals warriors – each more dangerously seductive than the last — stole and opened Pandora’s box, unleashing the evil from within. Now they carry that evil within themselves. Violence, Pain, Death, Disease, Disaster, Misery, Doubt, Promiscuity, Defeat, Lies, Secrets, and Wrath. When a powerful enemy returns, they will travel the world in search of a sacred relic of the gods – one that threatens to destroy them all.
Night Huntress by Jeaniene Frost
About the Series: The NIGHT HUNTRESS series is an urban fantasy romance featuring half-vampire heroine Cat Crawfield and Master vampire hero, Bones. My heroine and hero have a difficult road ahead of them and they will have to work very hard to earn their HEA (happily-ever-after), so their story isn’t over with the first book. Hope you come along for the ride!
Before I delve into any of the above, I have the Mortal Instruments series to finish. Truth be told, though it has been popular in following, I’ve had difficulty getting into them. I’m thinking a refresher between series is necessary, something stand alone – different.
As far as what I have on hand out of the above, where would your vote be for me to start? You could be the deciding factor in my unofficial poll.
Just Sayin’
I am a huge fan of the Night Huntress series, but truth be told, they are pretty quick reads. It seems as though LOTU or Dark Hunters might be better because there are more and have more mythology to really grasp.
I’m much the same way, so I hope you find something perfect for this weather!
I’m an avid reader of both the Dark Hunter (duh I review them for mvf) and also the Lords of the Underworld, and I feel either of them is a definite win-win situation. However, the Dark Hunters do have many more books out to date than the Lords of the Underworld so that might be a factor to consider when choosing. :)
Have fun! I always figure that as long as I’m reading something I’m in good shape.
