The Vampire Diaires, Episode 2!

After a very brief recap of last weeks epi, and Andy’s death, we dive right on into the goods when

Elena approaches Damon first about finding Stefan, and admits to him that she believed that Stefan had called her the night before, and thinks that this means he can be saved.  Damon of course refuses because he doesn’t want Elena in harms way, so Elena decides to go to Alaric for help.  After Alaric and Elena track down a pack of werewolves down in Tennessee, the area that Stefan was in when he called Elena, Elena decides its time for a trip to rescue Stefan.  Of course, Damon finds out (via Alaric) and confronts Elena in the woods once she’s already almost to the camp.  Damon relents to Elena’s pleas but only if she promises that they are all out of the woods before nightfall, because low and behold it’s the full moon…

We touch base with Jeremy a couple of times, most of the scenes seem to just be trying to talk Matt into believing him and letting him have some of Vicki’s former possessions so that he can try to contact her.  There is a spooky scene up in the attic, when I think that maybe Matt finally starts to believe in what Jeremy’s trying to tell him, but can’t deal so freaks and tells Jeremy to leave. Later on in the episode, Matt shows up at Jeremy’s with some of Vicki’s belongings to make amends and to try to communicate with his dead sister.  Vicki does make an appearance to Jeremy, and tells him that she can come back, but then Anna shows up and tells Jeremy not to trust Vicki…what’s a boy twice in love to do?

There are a couple of strained scenes between Mrs. Lockwood and Tyler, mostly because she knows that Caroline is a vampire and of course wants her son to stay away from her because she’s a (gasp) monster! Tyler finds out that the council is telling the workers at the Mystic to put vervane in the coffee every now and again to weed out vampires, Tyler remembers his morning cup of coffee that his mom gave him tasted awful as well, and puts two and two together and figures out that his mom knows about vampires, but in finding this out, he also finds out that something has happened to the as of yet mysteriously absent Caroline because his mom again says she’s a horrible monster.  To cure his mother of such misgivings Tyler decides to come clean about his inner monster and let him out…in front of his mom! (She of course, is safely locked away, and Tyler is chained so that no harm will come to either of them)  Mrs. Lockwood then has a change of heart and decides that maybe Caroline isn’t a monster just because she has fangs.

While in the woods, Ray the newest Hybrid that Klaus has turned, goes rabid and flees, Stefan goes after him, but is distracted when he finds out that Elena, Damon and Alaric are in the woods looking for him, and ends up with a deadly werewolf bite, rather then let Klaus find out that number one, Elena is in fact alive, and number two her and Damon are both in the vicinity, he distract Klaus by asking for a cure for the bite and is told that he won’t get one till he catches and brings back Ray.  While Ray is free in the woods, he comes across the unlikely trio looking for Stefan and he attacks Damon, just because he’s a vampire…and partly because he’s deranged out of his mind.  They knock him out with a crossbow bolt and a wolfs bane bomb (got to love technology these days) and tie him to a tree and are going to try and get information from him when they notice that he’s turning before the moon is up.  They all run away, Elena is almost attacked, Damon saves her life yet again by acting like bait and luring the wolf away, and then have a nasty fight which isn’t looking well for Damon, and Stefan steps up and literally rips the heart out of Ray before Ray can do any further damage.  Stefan tells Damon to leave and keep Elena at home and that he’s never coming back.  Damon later admits to Elena, once they’re all home safe and sound that he believes that Stefan can now be saved because of his actions earlier in the night, and Damon and Elena have another prized “moment”

So, winding down the end of the episode we find out that none of the Hybrids that Klaus had tried to make in the episode made it.  They either had to be killed or died themselves.  Klaus had believed that the transition would work because he had killed and werewolf, a vampire, and the doppelganger.  He starts to think about the situation, and almost concludes that Elena must still be alive, when Stefan diverts his attention to his wound, and asks again to be healed.  Finally, at the very end of the episode we see Caroline who has been painfully absent I might add, chained to a chair in some sort of dungeon, when her father walks in…dun, dun, dun…who also happens to be the same guy who was trying to talk Mrs. Lockwood into believing all vampires are soulless and inhuman.  Hmm, should be an interesting epi next week don’t you think?  We definitely have a lot going on with everyone so far this season.  Should be very interesting to see how things pan out.  And when the heck is Bonnie coming back?

Until next week my friends J
