The Vampire Diaries is BACK!

So, after a recap of all the juicy bits of last season, we jump right into a scene of Stefan and Klaus being nasty little vampires, all the way down in Tennessee of all places. It seems that Stefan is now completely under Klaus’ thumb, and doing everything that he tells them, including killing innocents.  Next, we are shown a nice little homey scene with Alaric, who has for the last six months, been crashing on Elena’s couch since the untimely death of Jenna last season.

I think this is my all time favorite part of the entire program tonight…yes, I am talking about seeing Damon so glorious in his birthday suit. I actually laughed out loud when Elena turned around and saw him in all his glory! Smart Vampire ;-)

As usual there is an event/party that everything is happening around, this time it happens to be Elena’s 18 birthday party…which, true to Elena’s character, is solemn and glum with out Stefan there.  The little surprise that I absolutely loved was the introduction of ghosts via Jeremy being able to see them since his resurrection last season.

As we get further into the plot, we are seeing a completely different side of Stefan. He almost seems to embrace his cold and evil side, and in one scene we’ve seen evidence of this from the artfully arranged dead bodies he’s left behind, once again being tagged as “The Ripper” because of his psychotic tendencies.

Klaus is still trying to find werewolves to make his army of hybrids, but when Damon gets too close its Stefan who goes to warn him off, and in turn kills Andy by using his mind control and making her fall to her death.

Tyler and Caroline finally start to talk about some of the side effects of being newly turned, and it turns out that being “horny” all the time is one they have in common.  At Elena’s party Caroline gets jealous when Tyler brings a date, they argue, and then kiss in the heat of their anger and leave the party together.

Elena finds out that Damon has been tracking Klaus far more than he had originally let on, gets upset and confronts him, and that’s when she finds out that the bodies and deaths that are littering the map are Stefans kills and not Klaus’.  Elena then gets a silent phone call that night, and somehow knows its Stefan and tells him she loves him and to keep that close to him, and he’ll be ok.

As we wind down at the end of the program, we see Caroline trying to sneak out of the Lockwood residence when she is found by Mrs. Lockwood, they have an awkward moment then as Caroline turns to leave and grabs her purse, she’s burnt by it, then shot by Mrs. Lockwood repeatedly in the back with some sort of Vervane tranq darts.

All in all, it was a pretty good episode with quite a few new factors that I liked thrown in the mix.  I liked the fact that they introduced ghosts, and that Jeremy is going to be a bit more permanently linked into the supernatural then he already was. I absolutely love the fact that our goody two shoes boy Stefan has embraced his dark side, and it seems that Damon, is starting to show more and more emotion as the episodes unfold.  I’m really looking forward to all the coming episodes to see what they have planned next, and how they’re going to cope.  Feel free to post your comments below, I look forward to seeing what everyone else thought of the Season Premiere :-)
