The Vampire Diaries: The End of the Affair

This was by far my favorite episode so far this season. I really enjoyed the flashbacks to the 1920′s. I also thought that the costumes and backdrop were really realistic.
Katherine makes a couple of scenes in this episode, as usual stirring the pot and causing trouble, but let’s be honest…we love her for it! So, basically Katherine phones Damon to tell him Klaus and Stefan’s whereabouts, and hints that she’s also been secretly trailing them, though we aren’t too sure why at this point.
Damon and Elena then make plans to head to Chicago to save Stefan from Klaus and himself, while on the drive there Damon produces an old journal of Stefan’s from that era so they can brush up on what he was like back then.
Damon takes Elena by Stefan’s old apartment and shows her a secret hubby in which he not only keeps alcohol, but a list of all the kills he’d made. Elena acted with bravado, but you could tell that it bothered her…nice to see some of that impenetrable wall starting to crumble.
Stefan learns that not only was he quite intimate with a fellow vamp named Rebecca, but also that she was Klaus’ sister and him and Klaus were supposedly very close friends. Stefan can’t figure why he can’t remember any of it though and he’s understandably frustrated about it
We do a quick little jaunt over to a scene with Caroline being tortured by her father with sunlight, and once Tyler’s mom finally comes clean with him, he immediately goes to Carolina’s mom and they go together to save Caroline from her crazy father. Caroline and her mom have a heart to heart about the possible reasons why her father is the way he is, then Tyler and her have a cuddle and she breaks down on him, and the scene ends with Tyler being compassionate and a cuddle bear for Caroline.
The story goes back to Stefan and Klaus again and we see them back in the same place as the 20′s, but new and they run into Gloria, who is the owner of the establishment and also a witch. Gloria states that she would be able to get down to the bottom of the hybrid problem with the help of his sister, Rebecca.
Winding it down, Damon nearly gets killed yet again, as he’s trying to be hero and protector to an oblivious Elena, Stefan stomps on the poor girl’s heart by basically telling her that they are over and he wants nothing to do with her.
Stefan finds out that Klaus compelled him to forget everything between himself and Rebecca and also with Klaus as well…then later compelled him again, so that he would remember everything.
Damon and Elena head back home very defeated and downtrodden, Rebecca finally rises from her forced rest and discovers her magical pendant is missing, which is what the witch needs to call on the dead original witch that had originally placed the hex or spell in the first place. And low and behold if it isn’t the same vervane filled pendant that Stefan had given Elena to keep her safe! Hmmm…
As I wrote earlier, I really enjoyed going back in time to the 1920′s, just as I’m sure a lot of others did too! There was just so much information in this episode, yet at the same time it was very vague as well, which is what we see a lot of in this series, and what keeps all of us hanging on for the next episode.
Until next week, my fellow fans :)
