Keys to the Repository by Melissa de la Cruz
Review by SarahBella
Keys to the Repository is a very fun book. It’s not light reading, but well worth the time. Most of the book reads like a series of entries straight out of the Repository’s archives, most of them written by Repository scribes. It also includes excerpts from the books that didn’t make the final cut as well as several scenes that the fans begged for so much that Melissa de la Cruz decided to write them. There is also a comprehensive Glossary at the end of the book.
The book has a file on each of the twenty-five or so main characters of the series and includes biographies full of their personal information – from physical descriptions to personality traits. I personally love reading their Angel names and the list of past lives. There are little bits of information intentionally and obviously left out that really make you wonder. There are also little bits that had been cut out by Charles when he was Regis that Lawrence Van Alen had reinstated when he was Regis. It’s amazing to see the lengths that Charles went to in order to cover up the truth.
The book as a whole helps pulls together the history of the Blue Bloods vampires and the mythos that Melissa de la Cruz used to create her world. To open the book, she wrote a letter explainign how the series cam to be and where some parts of the overall concept came from. It also includes just a bit about what we can expect from the series in the future. For example, Bliss journey to find the Hounds of Hell has been planned since the very beginning. It just took five books to get that far in the story.
I loved all the detail and the hidden little secrets it felt like we weren’t supposed to know. I adore the fact that sweet Ollie’s full name is Oliver Aloysius Fitzgerald Hazard-Perry II. I adore this so much more than I should. You walk away from the book knowing so much more about the series and the characters than you went in with. All in all, the book is definitely a five star read for me.
