Killing Rites by M. L. N. Hanover

review by SarahBella

Killing Rites is the fourth book in the Black Sun’s Daughter series by M. L. N. Hanover. It’s official release date is November 29th. As part of this advanced review, Simon and Schuster is giving away a COMPLETE SET of the Black Sun’s Daughter series! To enter, read below.

“Jayné Heller has discovered the source of her uncanny powers; something else is living inside her body. She’s possessed. Of all her companions, she can only bring herself to confide in Ex, the former priest. They seek help from his old teacher and the circle of friends he left behind, hoping to cleanse Jayné before the parasite in her becomes too powerful.

Ex’s history and a new enemy combine to leave Jayné alone and on the run. Her friends, thinking that the rider with her has taken the reins, try to hunt her down, unaware of the danger they’re putting her in. Jayné must defeat the weight of the past and the murderous intent of another rider, and her only allies are a rogue vampire she once helped free and the nameless thing hiding inside her skin.”

I thoroughly enjoyed this book. Jayné is a great heroine, easy to follow and engaging. Ex – the former priest – is a bit harder to get a read on, but not in a bad way. His character is more mysterious. I did wish there was more action in the book, but the journey was more an emotional one than physical. The book did seem like a transitional novel in the series but was still a worthwhile read.

Over all, the book was a good read – entertaining, compelling and fun. I’d definitely recommend it to any fan of urban fantasy. I’m giving it four out of five moons.
