Welcome to the New Year, Vampire Diaries fans!

To give ya’ll a quick recap since the last episode, I’m going to give you a super condensed version.  Cuz really, lets face facts here…you more than likely wouldn’t be reading this if you weren’t already caught up.  So, here goes…Elena staked Rebecca (the epic bad guy’s sister) in the back, Klaus (the epic bad guy) was almost staked by Damon (the epic hottie) but Stefan (the epic moper) double crossed his own brother and saved Klaus! I know, right? Anyways, right after the whole thing goes down, Stefan disappears along with all Klaus’ family (in coffins…eewww) and basically holds his coffin-bound family over his head, to try and control him, and get Klaus to basically leave everyone alone.  Ok, now lets get to the good stuff tonight…

We open the episode with Jeremy hanging out with Tyler Lockwood of all people (awkward…) and Jeremy basically acting like the badass he’s not.  We find out that he’s been drinking lots, got fired from his job…basically headed in a fast downward spiral of misery and mistakes. So, the question is: are we blaming Bonni cuz of the breakup? Or are we going with the whole turmoil of being 16 thing? Hmmm…

Since Stefan has disappeared Damon has taken over the fulltime role of protector and shoulder to cry on for Elena…poor guy, he’s definately got patience, hope she throws him a bone soon… ;) and Bonni seems to have started having some precog dreams? Cool, right? But seriously, she keeps having the same dream about coffins in the old witchy house, and Elena finally talks her into doing some research, and seeing if the coffins are really there.

Klaus of course, makes his entrance onto the scene and promptly threatens everyone Elena loves, so that she’ll tell him where Stefan and his family are hiding, and where the heck is Rebecca? Hmm, good question…Elena? Care to answer that?  Funny isn’t it, how Vampires are always portrayed as otherworldly, all-knowing, powerful beyond all means…yet this supposedly nearly indestructible species can’t seem to add up scenerios, and figure crap out themselves? Huh…makes for a good plot I guess…

Bonni, during her travels to the old witchy house runs into Stefan, who’s apparently been hiding out there since everything went down, and he asks her for help to try and mask the presence of the 4 coffins from Klaus, should he find where Stefan’s been hiding. She of course hums and haws for awhile, seeing as the last they all knew, Stefan had totally double crossed them all…but in the end, ends up giving in to Stefan.  Meanwhile, back at Casa d’Gilbert, Jeremy gets told to ditch Tyler and have a family supper with  Elena and Alaric, but he ends up inviting in Tyler (apparently Jeremy DID fall of the turnip truck yesterday) who tries to explain (while failing miserably I might add) how he’s still a free person even though Klaus sired him and yadda, yadda, yadda.  During the whole “talk”, Jeremy gets a phone call, then he gets up, walks outside and stands in the middle of the road…waiting for someone to kill him.  Just as it looks like Jeremy will be hit, Alaric saves him by pushing him out of the way, and taking the brunt of the speeding vehicle to his own body (thank goodness for those magic rings).  Turns out, Tyler was working for Klaus the whole time, but swears he didn’t know that anyone would actually get hurt or die. (Um…duh?)

Bonni comes clean with Elena and tells her where to find Stefan, but he refuses to help so she FINALLY gets p.o.’d and tells him off, slaps his mopy face, and tells him to go to hell. (Yay!) Damon steps in and kicks Elena out of there to go deal with her own brother, while he starts beating the truth out of Stefan the way only a big brother can.  Stefan finally relents, let’s Damon in on his plan, but they both agree to keep Elena out of it this time.

When Alaric comes around from his car wreck, we find out that his ring isn’t working properly…as in, it brought him back to life, but didn’t heal him…so he’s now dying from internal injuries.  One of Klaus’ minions shows up to “save” Alaric with blood, but Jeremy finally comes home, shoots the hybrid in the back, then decapitates him.  You know, just the norm for an everyday kind of 16 year old…um, yeah.  Elena, to save her brother, gives Klaus Rebecca, but tells him that she knows that Klaus was the one who killed their mother, not their Dad…as Klaus had told her before.

We end the episode with Elena asking Damon to compell Jeremy to move away and never think of Mystic Falls again.  Stefan is still kind of out of the picture, Klaus decides not to revive Rebecca, Alaric is fully healed thanks to Damon’s blood, (we don’t know why the rings are being weird though) and Damon comes clean about Stefan’s motives for his actions…that he was trying to save Damon.  And then, the best part… THEY FINALLY KISS!!!!!! Holy, talk about a slow burn! There’s been tension between those two for a long time!

Well, sad to see Jeremy go, was kinda hoping to see where they were headed with the whole “I see dead people” thing, I hope they touch base with him once in awhile.  I am curious as to why Klaus didn’t revive his sister after all that…is he protecting Elena, like he said? Or himself, now that she knows he’s lied to her? Hmmm, curioser and curioser.  I’d love to hear any and all comments about what you, the viewer is thinking is going on, so feel free…

Till next week my friends!

Anjela.

  1. LOVE your recap.

I caught up today and I could just tell that this season is on track for a Elena/Damon pairing. I think she’ll eventually end up with Stefan, but not before she has a little something with his brother first. He’s been her rock this season so I look forward to seeing where that is going.

I’m actually sad to see Jeremy go. I wonder what job offer Steven R. McQueen got for him to be written off the show, or if this was part of the plan all along. But it was still sad when they were all standing there watching his memory take a beating.

Klaus is such an epic bad guy but deep down I really feel bad for him. Everything he does is a result of stuff he had no control over. His mom having an affair – which is obviously why Mikael dislike him so much, and then subsequently cursing him so he would be alone and turning his back on him. I’d probably turn out like him too. *lol*

Anyhoo…I’m interested to see where this is all heading!
